It was further learned that Don Pedro had taken the Governor of the island, together with the officers, and had nominally appointed others in their places. On the day previous to the 29th Don Pedro had sailed on another vessel for Terceira, to collect an army of 8 or 9000 men, and to take the islands still holding out.
The blockade was rigidly enforced, several prizes had been taken, and further five American vessels ordered off. The commander of the Donna Maria wished the captain of the General Warren to report that they had been well treated.
The Portuguese vessels appeared to be manned entirely with English officers and men.
