President E. T. Ijams of the Tombstone Telephone Co., returned from Safford last evening and states that near Bowie, Saturday night, two well known Cochise county cowboys, named Sherman Krump and Edward Dowdie, were bitten during the night by a hydrophobia coyote. The cowboys were sleeping in the open near a windmill and during the night were awakened by an attack by the coyote. The animal had sunk its teeth into the nose of Krump, while Dowdie was severely bitten on the left hand. Both wounds bled profusely. The coyote was seen to be affected with the rabies as he was perfectly hairless and both vicious and frenzied, the heat-crazed beast snapping at every object in its path. The coyote, suffering from hydrophobia, is regarded far more dangerous than a hydrophobia skunk.
Dowdie immediately left for the Pasteur institute at Austin, while Krump intends leaving for the same institution today, remaining over one day to deliver some cattle at Benson.
