We learn by a private conveyance that the President arrived at 1 o'clock on Saturday last at Bridgeport, Connecticut, in the steamboat Splendid, from New York. He remained at that town an hour, and saw many of the citizens.—the "Yankee gals" turned out in great numbers, and were particularly delighted with the Hero of New Orleans.
The President started again at 1 o'clock, and reached the beautiful city of New Haven between 2 and 3 in the afternoon. Here there were a committee of citizens in waiting to receive him, and a company of military to escort him to the Capitol. He was conducted to a very handsome barouche, drawn by four greys, which conveyed him to the Capitol, where the Mayor and Governor addressed him, to whom he made suitable replies. On his way from the Capitol to Yale College, the students formed an open line, through which he walked to the building of the Institution, where he visited the Trumbull Gallery of Minerals and other curiosities. He was attended and surrounded by the whole population of New Haven. The President and his suite put up at the 'Tontine. On Sunday morning he attended the services of the Episcopal Church, and in the afternoon the Presbyterian. The President's health is daily improving.
