JACKSONVILLE (AP)—Four golf gals who undercut par were a good jump out front in the Jacksonville Women's Open Golf Tournament to start today's second round.
Louise Suggs, little Carrollton, Ga., girl who was the third highest money winner of the 1951 tour, and Betsy Rawls, Austin, Tex., who is National Open champion, shared first place after Friday's first 18 holes.
Each shot a three under par record 73 over the 6,282 yard Brentwood Municipal Course. Record for the layout was 74.
Babe Zaharias, Tampa, winner of 10 of last year's 20 women's tournaments and again top money winner, and Mary Lena Faulk, tall Thomasville, Ga., amateur, were only a stroke behind at 74.
Friday's favorable weather brought in 11 scores under 80 out of a field of 33 that started the 54 hole three-day medal play event.
Beverly Hanson, Fargo, N. D., and Betty Jameson, San Antonio, Tex., both professionals, and Pat Warner, Midland, Tex., and Kathy McKinnon, Lakeland, amateurs, got 78 each.
Patty Berg, St. Andrews, Ill., and Bauer sisters, Marlene and C.E., Sarasota, had 79 each. All are professionals.
