Augusta, Dec. 5.--The affair between Col. Cumming and Mr. M'Duffie is, we believe, at last finally settled; and we notice the circumstances connected with its termination for the purpose of preventing such erroneous statements from "extracts of letters," &c. as are sometimes made.--Without intending to say more on a subject which it affords us no pleasure to introduce into our paper, we barely state the following facts:
The parties met on Wednesday last, near Campbeltown, in South Carolina, about three miles from this place.--but on taking their stations an exception was taken by Col. Cumming's second to the manner in which Mr. M'Duffie held his pistol. This led to some discussion, and a postponement followed. On Saturday morning last, they had another meeting, and exchanged a shot without effect; at the second fire Mr. M'Duffie was wounded, his left arm being broken above the elbow,--the Colonel was not injured. The parties were reconciled on the ground, and the difference between them is at an end. We understand Mr. M'Duffie's wound though severe is not considered dangerous.
