"This province is in a flourishing condition, and what greatly contributes to it is the unanimity and good understanding that subsists between the governor and the assembly. Frederick county is amazingly improved, and the industry of the German emigrants is astonishing. We have now got into the art of making good cheese (the best upon the continent.) We have plenty of stocking and worsted weavers in Frederick town, and our church is the only one in the province that has got a steeple. We are in hopes of having a port law, and have the trade established at Baltimore, St. Mary's, and Benedict; at present it is distributed all over the province."
