Clark Philharmonic Presents
"Seven Last Words"
April

The Clark College Music Department presents the Alumni-Philharmonic Society in its Fifth Annual Oratorio singing "The Seven Last Words" by Saverio Mercadante (1795-1870). The Seven Last Words of Christ (compiled from the four gospels) have occasionally been used as a text for Passion music by many composers. One hundred voices will be heard in this presentation Friday, April 8, 1960 at 8:00 p.m., Davage Auditorium.

The following Clark Alumni will sing with the Philharmonic Society: Pearlie C. Dove, Mary Alice Brumfield, Isabella T. Butts, Sylvia Lee Jones, Thelma Jones Farline B. Wood, Edith D. Thomas, Margaret King, Haroldeen H. Crowder, Mable Matthews, Helen G. Wright, Vera O'Neal, Beverly W. Terrell, Jennye Townsend, Mildred Hilliary, Mary F. Early, H. Eugene Craig, Jasper Pharrow, J. J. Dennis, Willie Wright, Joseph A. Stevens, Floyd Miner, Jesse Hardeman, Willis Bolton, Eldridge McMillan, Ernest Pharr, Luther Stripling, Borah Walton, E. B. Woods, and Alfred Wyatt.

Soloists from the above group are: Sylvia Lee Jones, Soprano; Joseph A. Stevens, Tenor, and Luther Stripling, Bass.

An interesting and effective combination of voices with major responsibilities in the oratorio is the following double quartette: Sylvia Lee Jones and Loretta Fowlkes, Soprano; Mary F. Early and Vera O'Neal, Alto; Joseph A. Stevens and Floyd Miner, Tenor; and Luther Stripling and Willie L. Bolton, Bass.
