Spend Busy Week
At Camp Monacan
Boy Scout Troop 525, of Buckingham, attended Camp Monacan for the week of July 3-9 with the assistant scoutmaster, Rebert F. Holmes.
The following boys attended camp: Spencer Adams, senior patrol leader; Gerry Love, patrol leader; Jimmy Dean, patrol leader, and the following scouts: John Pennington, Johnny Holmes, Irving Driscoll, Dennis Huskey, John Griffin, Charles Heath, Tommy Shumaker, Donald Shumaker, Bobby Snoddy, Robert Sprouse, and Donald Jamerson.
All scouts worked on various advancement requirements that included - boating, swimming, life saving, camping, hiking, wood craft, archery, fishing, and woodlore.
The highlight of the week was an overnight hike to the nearby mountain camp called the "Outpost Camp." The Mountain-man will instruct the scouts in survival in the wilderness. This will include keeping dry, finding wild foods, preparing wild foods for eating, and the catching of wild game. Those scouts that pass this phase will earn the right to spend another night on the mountain at the Indian Camp.
The troop returned last Saturday afternoon.
