Huge Crowd At Edinburg To Hear Goodwin And Woodroof Praise McDonald Plan.
EDINBURG. Mch. 7 (Spl)-More than 600 citrus growers and business men from the Upper Valley assembled in the high school auditorium here last night in a meeting to discuss the coming citrus election and hear speeches from leaders of the industry. Herndon Adderholdt presided and speeches were made by Marvin Goodwin and W. D. Woodroof. After the main speaking there were talks from the floor every one of which favored the McDonald minimum price plan.
Marvin Goodwin made a splendid speech. He traced the history of the marketing of citrus in the Valley and told how one group after another has fallen down because the marketing agencies gave too little attention to the grower and too much attention to packing charges He said the only plan that ever has been advanced wherein the grower is giving consideration is the McDonald plan,
"What." he asked. "have these big shippers gained by going into court and getting this injunction? Now. for the first time the grower is going to have a chance to vote on his own proposition and tell how he wants his own business run."
Woodroof said the minimum price plan had been put into effect at the express wish of the people and he had been trying to carry out their wishes.
"Then certain selfish interests went into court and obtained an injunction. This coming election has been called to clarify the atmosphere and give the growers a chance to tell the constituted authorities what they wish."
The second meeting of the series will be held in the high school auditorium at La Feria tonight.
