Extract of a Letter from the Island of St. Domingue:
"We are in possession of this island, which proves a fine one: We should have suffered much in our attack, had the French behaved with any spirit; only part of the fleet is yet arrived, and we landed and attacked with no more than 700 men. The approach of the hurricanes will prevent our attempting any further conquest in this country; until a more favourable season, when we expect to visit the Granades, or St. Luecca. A ship with 120 of Col. Vaughn's regiment is taken and carried into Martinique. The commander of the troops was capt. Charles William Legeyt."
