Full Text

We learn from a Correspondent, at the west End of the Town, that a very extraordinary Requisition was made a Short Time since to our Ministers, from a Quarter where they least expected it. The French Ambassador, waiting upon Lord Rochford, laid before him, in the strongest Terms, the critical Situation of Affairs in the eastern Part of Germany; and, after explaining how much the Balance of Power was concerned in it, concluded with pressing that the Arms of Great Britain might be joined with those of his Master to preserve the general System from being overturned. The Proposals were, that the King his Master would immediately march an Army into Germany, and that two British Fleets should be sent to the Baltick and Mediterranean, to make a powerful Diversion, and to lay the Territories of the inimical Powers in those Parts under Contribution. This Proposition alarmed the British Minister, and occasioned the warm Conference he had immediately afterwards with two foreign Ambassadors on this Subject.
