3 Generations, All Her Pupils, Will Help Celebrate Golden Jubilee
Chicago, May 9.—(P)—Miss Carrie Roundy, 71, a teacher in a little west Chicago school for 50 years, today planned to retire from the teaching profession to continue her education.
She will say "good-bye" to her pupils, three generations of them, June 8. "I'm retiring as a teacher," she said, "but I'll never retire as a learner. I'm going to take a course of study and retreat to the fountain of youth that is to be found in education."
Three generations of neighbors, five-eighths of those in the school district, who studied in her classes, planned to help celebrate her golden jubilee. Also those who during the last 55 years have been members of her Sunday School class at the Methodist church will participate.
The entire suburb will contribute to a fund of $30,000 to be presented to her at a public celebration in honor of her life-long service to the community.
Children today, Miss Roundy believes, are no different from what they were 50 years ago. The school boy is more eager than ever to learn, she said.
