About 1 o'clock last Sunday morning the horse barn on Joseph L. Reeve's farm, occupied by Elwood McGinnis, near Gibbstown, was burned to the ground. In the building was two horses, two mules, hay, grain, and farm utensils.
Mr. McGinnis was awakened by a bright light. The building was partially insured to Mr. Reeve, looked to Mr. McGinnis in a total loss.
Mr. McGinnis returned home about ten o'clock in the evening and put his team up retiring shortly after. He had not been asleep long when awakened by the light. The origin of the fire is a mystery. A peculiarity about the fire is, that both the barns, which are only about 60 feet apart, and connected by a shed were not destroyed. A stack of hay stood about midway between the barns, and that was burned, but hard work by Mr. McGinnis and his two men, and the fact that the wind changed, saved the other barn. Two stacks of hay, that were believed to be at a safe distance, took fire after the wind shifted, and were destroyed.
