In the last Legislature the Democrats had a majority of 18 in the Senate and 38 in the House. According to the returns so far received there will not be much if any difference in the next Legislature.
The Raleigh Visitor figures up the result about as follows:
"So far as heard from the election has resulted in a gain of five Senators and a loss of four to the Democrats, and a Democratic gain of seven and loss of eight in the lower House. The Democrats gain two Senators in the first Senatorial district, and one each in the districts composed of the county of Sampson, the counties of Randolph and Moore, and Stokes and Forsyth. They lose one in each of the districts of New Hanover and Pender, of Wake, of Granville and of Davidson. They gain two members of the House in Cumberland, and one in each of the counties of Beaufort, Cherokee, Randolph, Robeson and Stokes, and lose two in Granville and one in Davidson, Gaston, Guilford, Mitchell and Pender."
