Unemployment

"Georgia's insured unemployment
dropped last week for the third
straight week," according to Georgia's Commissioner of Labor Ben
T. Huiet.
The rate for the week ending
May 24 dropped to its lowest point
in seven weeks. The 51,800 Georgia
workers who drew job insurance
last week comprised the lowest
number since the first week in
April. The current rate of insured
unemployment is 6.3 per cent, which
means that over 93 out of every
100 Georgia workers whose wages
are insured under the Employment
Security law are carrying home
regular pay checks," Huiet asserted.
The placement of non-farm
workers as well as farm workers
continues at an increased tempo in
most of the Department's 34 Employment Service offices. In fact,
the record of these placements for
the last three complete weeks is
higher than that of comparable
weeks a year ago," Huiet concluded.
