PEDIATRICIANS, or children's doctors are far less likely to meddle about the minor functional troubles of childhood than the parents. In general, it may be said that the doctor does not worry at all about what drives the parents crazy, and the parents do not worry at all about what drives the doctor crazy (such as neglecting smallpox and diphtheria vaccination).
One of my best friends used to tell with delight a story of his childhood. His father was an exceedingly philosophical and easy-going man.
One day, for some reason, my friend and his brother decided to run away. Back yard at the summer day, and as they came around the corner father was sitting there in time, on a hot They were in of the house brother decided on the
"Where are you going," he asked.
"We are running away," they said.
"Don't run," said the father calmly. "Walk. Nobody is going to chase you."
This took all the zest out of the adventure.
