Veterans Elect Officers

Noel M. Traversy was re-elected president of the local branch of the American Legion at the meeting of that organization held in Chamber of Commerce Hall last week.

Other officers named were Ralph Young, secretary, who succeeded D. J. Mulcare, resigned, and Oren F. Hill, who was elected to the post of service officer.

The meeting was attended by the following ex-service men: N. M. Traversy, D. J. Mulcare, P. Callahan, E. L. Dale, C. J. Davis, Gus Ellich, C. B. Hager, O. F. Hill, Holger Johnson, D. E. Martin, A. J. Mayer, C. L. Turner.

Among matters of general interest discussed was a proposal to secure suitable head-stones for the graves of deceased veterans in the local cemetery. These include the graves of Fred Dory, Samuel L. Fry, James Maddon, and Wm. Murphy.

Discussions of the plans for the hospitalization of veterans in the Stewart hospital and local medical treatment, a contract which was recently authorized by the Veteran's Bureau, constituted a prominent part of the proceedings and resulted in a decision that certified copies of veteran's army and navy discharges shall be filed with the Service Officer, who will keep on file all records of the members: the object being to facilitate hospitalization of members in case of need.

The Legion meeting followed a general meeting of ex-service men, including both Legion members and non-members, which was attended by about 16 ex-service men. N. M. Traversy presided and D. J. Mulcare officiated as secretary.

The object of the meeting was to advise local veterans that they can now secure hospitalization in the Stewart hospital and to facilitate action in that direction by the filing of copies of discharges from the service with the service officer of the local American Legion branch.

It was brought out that a veteran need not be a member of the Legion to secure hospitalization.
