Atlanta's two community centers, sponsored by the city Parks and the WPA Recreation Departments are now in the midst of their mid-winter activities. And no efforts go out from members of the recreation staff for older adults to take advantage of the unusual opportunities offered at both the David T. Howard and the W. H. Crogan centers. The Crogan center is open on Monday and Wednesday nights from 8:00 to 9:00, while the Howard center is open on Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 9:30. The David T. Howard center put on recently a very successful social recreation program and those present were well pleased with the brilliant manner in which the program was carried out. Vocal solos were rendered by Frank Leslie and William Jones, followed by a period of group singing, in which everyone present participated. The drama group's contribution to the program was the Charade (word-management), in which a trio consisting of Marie Thornton, Lula Stephens, and Davenport took the leading role. During the game-period the game leaders were at their best keeping the audience well entertained with an appropriate assortment of games. Sally Lisbon and Pierce Barnes were leaders of the two sides in a game of friendly competition. January 27, the Howard center will present a festival of folk dances, the place to be announced later. Virginia Reid is scheduled to appear with the folk dance group doing a cake walk. The public is invited to attend this colorful affair. The Crogan center is offering to the people of Pittsburgh and South Atlanta many worthwhile activities, consisting of folk dancing, community singing, arts and crafts and dramatics.
