A Generous 'Look'
FULL-PAGE advertisement in Look magazine costs $21,831. That's a lot of money. In its March 3 issue, Look donated a full-page ad "in the public interest" about the marvels of America's industrial machine and big industry.
The full-page ad concluded with the following paragraph:
"When you see or hear attacks on big business just because it is big, don't agree without question. If you do, you are helping to cripple the high productivity that is the basis of our rising levels of living.
Speak up!"
In the March 17 issue, Look again gave up a full-page ad "in the public interest." The ad again praised "big business" and stressed how "large, well-financed companies are essential" to us in peace time and "vital" in time of war. The ad concluded with these words:
"When attempts are made to cripple big business just because it is big, don't take them lying down. Lowered productivity will lower your own level of living.
Speak up!"
We're waiting, but not breathlessly, for a full page "in the public interest" that will conclude with these words:
"When you see or hear attacks on big labor just because it is big, don't agree without question. If you do, you are helping to cripple the high productivity that is the basis of our rising levels of living.
Speak up!"
In fact, we don't care if this latter message rates only a half-page ad!
