Lake Navigation.—Yesterday afternoon, the steamboat Uncle Sam, Captain Milikin, left our harbor to attempt a passage up the lake; and this morning, the Daniel Webster, Captain Tyler; Governor Marcy, Captain Gorham; Ohio, Captain Chase; Eclipse, Captain Nickerson; W. F. P. Taylor, Captain Simons; and Charles Townsend, Captain Fox, followed suite. All these vessels were literally crammed from stem to tern, with passengers and freight. Indeed, the term crammed, hardly gives an idea of their crowded condition! In addition, there are from thirty to forty brigs and schooners, now waiting a wind, which are equally loaded down with freight, &c., for the upper ports; and which, we trust, will all, in a few days, be safely and rapidly on their way to their several destinations. The departure of these boats caused the appearance of matters around our docks and wharves, to assume a more lively cast. We deem it but proper here to add, that there is yet much ice in the lower end of the lake, though it is much broken up and rotten. Still vessels will have great difficulty in forcing their way through it. Twenty-four hours of an east wind, if we could get it, would however, completely disperse it.-Buffalo Whig.
