Captain Waterman who arrived here last Monday from Philadelphia informs us That 15 Days before off Rhode Island he met with a small Sloop from which one Capt. Jones came on board him and informed that on his Passage from North Carolina to Rhode Island he was taken but two Days after he came out by the small Spanish Privateer Sloop from St. Augustine that they gave him and his People the Boat with which they went ashore at Virginia from thence he took Passage for Philadelphia but meeting with Capt. Waterman he came with him and landed at Tarpaulin Cove.
It is not a Month since Captain Jones was taken. The Captain of the Privateer had dismissed the Pilot which he took in the Summer up Chesapeake Bay as he had the Charts and was now well acquainted with the Southern Coasts. He gave out that he intended to continue Cruizing that Way for some Time.
It is thought that it would be no very difficult Matter especially now the Havannah is ours to starve the Garrison of St. Augustine or oblige them to surrender by two Frigates from So. Carolina alternately blocking up that Port.
