Full Text
We congratulate our federal friends, on the happy issue of their endeavours to regain those rights and privileges, on which depend our principal means of subsistence.
"The mind of desultory man, fond of change," by mistaking visionary phantoms for real good, is put to the wreck to devise new experiments. Hence the citizens of this country, dissatisfied with the unparalleled prosperity which they enjoyed under the mild auspices of Washington and Adams, and fascinated with the professions and philosophy of demagogues, renounced the policy & the authors of their happiness, and joined themselves to democracy.
But, thanks be to heaven, the spell is broken. The destructive policy pursued by the late administration, has taught a lesson that will long be remembered. To the wavering imbecilities, which for eight years have paralyzed our councils and disgraced the nation, there is reason to hope, will succeed some degree of energy and plain dealing.
Should our hopes be realized and the lacerated wounds of party healed, the country will hail with lively satisfaction those patriots in the cause of their country, by whose means it is effected.
