NEW N. P. TRAIN
THE
"ALASKAN"
ANNOUNCED

The "Alaskan" will be the name of the transcontinental train operating between Chicago and the Pacific northwest.

E. E. Nelson, passenger traffic manager of the Northern Pacific, announced recently that the name, the "Alaskan" will be given transcontinental trains Nos. 3 and 4 which run between Seattle and Chicago. Heretofore, these trains have been called the "Comet," which name will hereafter be used exclusively for the Yellowstone National Park train, which is operated by the Northern Pacific between Chicago and Yellowstone Park during the park season.

With the increase of nationwide interest in Alaska, its recreational and industrial possibilities, the "Alaskan" has been chosen as an appropriate name for the train operating between the middlewest and the Pacific, where steamers are boarded for the Alaskan cruise, according to Mr. Nelson. Travel by vacationists to the scenic areas of Alaska each year has shown increases, and with the enlargement of the steamship accommodations this year, the Northern Pacific, by naming one of its transcontinental passenger trains the "Alaskan," gives recognition to this current travel trend, Mr. Nelson said.
