HOUSTON. Texas, July 28.-
Seven convicts who escaped from the
state farm near Sugarland last night
after killing Henry Ward, a guard,
were believed hiding today in heavy
underbrush near the Brazos river.
The convicts made their dash for
liberty in the face of heavy gunfire
with officers and camp guards.
Two deputy sheriffs and two
convicts were wounded in the firing.
Ward was shot down when he went
to the aid of a fellow guard, Jim
Jeeter, who had been disarmed by
the convicts.
