PORT ROYAL DRY DOCK.

Additional Repairs to Be Made Before Acceptance by the Department.

Washington, Aug. 28.—Justin McCarthy, of this city, the contractor who constructed the government dry dock at Port Royal, S. C., was to-day informed by Acting Secretary McAdoo, of the navy department, that in accordance with the recommendation of the board that examined the dock, the government cannot accept it in its present condition. Mr. McAdoo says he must make repairs which the board thinks are necessary before acceptance can be given or else the government will make them, taking the cost out of a part of the contract price which the navy department has retained. The principal objection of the examining board was that the gates were not strong enough, in their opinion, to withstand the pressure of the water.
