TO THE EDITOR OF THE BOSTON CENTINEL.

FROM FRANCE.

" I have just arrived from Nantz, and embrace the first opportunity to forward you a file of Paris papers, and a few items of Paris news.

Our passage has not been a short one ; but, possibly, the accounts may be the latest direct from France,

" When I left France, the Toulon fleet had been out 21 days. Their destination a profound secret.

" The Paris papers, you will see, announce the sudden death of Admiral Bruix, Commander in Chief of the Imperial Flotilla at Boulogne He had been sent for, to Paris, and a few days before his death had an audience of his Majesty the Emperor, at the Thuilleries. The Emperor insisted upon the performance of some movement by the flotilla, which the Admiral told him was impracticable. At this the Emperor became enraged, and like the Macedonian madman, gave the Admiral a slap in the face. Four days after he was dead, People in Paris did not hesitate to say, he was poisoned ; but it is more probable, he died of grief and chagrin.

Mr. Robert Patterson, brother to Mrs. Jerome Bonaparte, had been in Paris the last winter ; and had dined with Prince Joseph (who, by the by, is the best of the family ;) but no notice was taken of him by any others of the Imperial Family. It was reported, that Lucien Bonaparte had been arrested in Italy : and was then confined in some castle in France.

" The French Emperor had declared himself against allowing American Consuls to reside in the French Colonies.

" Mr. Livingston, I am told, means to adduce the gold box, as evidence of the respect he enjoyed at the French Court.—Poor old gentleman ; he little thinks it intended, merely as payment for the conspiracy letter—and his journey to England. The little Hotspur, who governs Europe, has too much contempt for every thing that smells of Republicanism, to reward. or compliment any man who ever breathed Republican air. Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, and Indivisibility, once so popular in France, have, become obsolete words; and no vestige of them is to be found on the Public Buildings they once were intended to consecrate, Sic transit gloria mundi.

" The late heavy duties on colonial produce, together with the large quantities at market, had completely stagnated business at Nantz : Coffee was 48 to 49 sols, dull ; and every description of West-India produce very heavy; Coffee now pays 50 francs per cwt. duties 10 per cent, war tax on that makes it 10 1/2 cents nearly per pound."
