Full Text
De Soto Watchman: "A vagabond Italian, with his family, consisting of a large cinnamon bear, his wife and several small children, came into town last Saturday and for a day or two kept things quite lively. The old man exhibited the bear, which performed numerous tricks, while his wife or children passed the hat or solicited alms around town. The old man and the bear got drunk and were locked up. First the man, then when the Marshal found he could not manage the bear, it was put with its master in the calaboose. John Bridell and the bear had a collision, and it is still undecided as to who got the worst or best of it."
