Whether or some loved one has been confined to Battey State hospital Rome, Ga., as a victim of that scourge-tuberculosis.

In most cases of these tuberculous patients their only ray of hope lies in purchasing Streptomycin, an expensive drug which will put them on the road to recovery. Unfortunately, however, that ray of hope is shrouded by their inability to muster necessary finance.

PATIENTS IN DRIVE
When Dr. Rufus Payne, superintendent of the hospital, announced that it would take $75,000 to provide treatment for the 150 patients who are unable to afford it, and that our economy-minded legislature did not provide the necessary funds, the patients' Relations Organization of the institution began a campaign to raise the $75,000 by contributing $2,000, an amount which represents profits from their store; guest house and soft drink machines. This amount, as significant as it is, is only a drop in the bucket so to speak.

Andrew Morton, a Negro and vice president of the Patients Auxiliary club, said last week: "You can't imagine how hopeful we are. We have seen what wonders Streptomycin does. We all know patients who want to get outside and shout Hallelujah!"

The appeal is therefore brought to young and old, white and black alike, to extend a helping hand to these victims who are sinking in the mire of tuberculosis.

The cost of each patient's treatment per day is $5.00. To nurse one patient back to health will cost $5.00. At present there are 150 victims at the institution who need this miraculous drug but are unable to afford it. Therefore, one can readily see their predicament.

If ever there was a worthy cause, this most certainly is one. Remember this disease is no respector of person and if you perchance unfortunately become its victim, you would be at Battey making a similar appeal to your fellow man.

Dig down deep and show your generosity and sympathy to humanity by contributing to this worthy cause.
