WASHINGTON, May 13.- Geo. W. Campbell, of Chicago, testified before the civil service committee to-day, that he was a brother of Ben Campbell, the marshal of the northern district of Illinois, and when Gen. Sweet was pension agent at Chicago witness got appointed to a clerkship at $2,500 per annum, and was afterwards reduced to $1,500; he was employed for two or three years and had no duties to perform, the position was a mere sinecure.
