After my departure from Moscow, I in the course of 14 days not only came up with the enemy's army, but likewise sent out detached parties to cut off the road of his retreat. In consequence of this, two French generals, barons Hantren and Corchowski, several officers, and a great number of privates, have been made prisoners. I shall have the happiness of sending your majesty a report of those who, in these skirmishes, have signalised themselves by their activity and exertions. Count prince Wonkonskje, your imperial majesty's adjutant, deserves particular notice, he having taken one of the aforesaid generals prisoner.
I am, by means of the detached parties, already in communication with the corps of count Wittgenstein. Col. Elmursen, of the regiment of bodily cossacks, who was detached with a separate party, has this morning sent me seven of the enemy's officers, who, according to their report, had endeavored to find a place of refuge for themselves after the battle of Krasnoi, and intended to defend themselves in the villages; but being suddenly attacked, they were at length obliged, after an obstinate resistance, to surrender to the arms of your imperial majesty.
