Full Text

The town of Marblehead it seems
have petitioned Congress, through
Mr. Story, for a bounty on their fish.
The modesty of these people really exceeds all bounds. They have done
every thing in their power to encourage the administration in their project of destroying trade and navigation-have even offered themselves
and their vessels, heretofore laudably
employed in catching fish, to aid in
enforcing the embargo-and now
they tell a pitiable story to Congress
about their sufferings, proceeding
from this very Embargo they so
much admire, and beg them to afford
them a pension of the money which
the taxes upon their fellow-citizens
have brought into the public treasury. We believe Salem, and every
other commercial town, has as much
of a claim upon the bounty of government, from their sufferings, as Marblehead.--Ibid
