Orange County Observer

Dear Sir: It may be amusing and instructive to your readers to learn the many reasons given why old Orange at this time be dismembered by the act of a Democratic Legislature led by our chosen seed wheat—sound it Green.
1st. Because Orange impeached Holden.
2d. Because she supported Jo Turner who was the "no fence" candidate, and elected him upon that issue alone.
3d. Because Chatham county has a lot of crippled ducks.
4th. Because by a dismemberment a no liquor man can be elected to Congress from Durham city and thereby carry prohibition in North Carolina.
5th. Because Wake county can saddle part of her debt on Durham county, and will do it.
6th. Because thereby a few bob tani lawyers can get better picking—if Green.
7th. Because if the county is not dismembered, the Radicals generally known as "the thieves and niggers," will carry old Orange, and that it is far better to divide Orange than to submit to negro rule and Radical supremacy—as much as they love old Orange and Hillsboro, "The City of the Dead."
8th. Because the Democrats of Durham city threaten if there is no dismemberment of Orange that they will put Jo Turner over her.
The above are the only reasons so far known why Orange be divided.
The question of being attached to other counties will come up after a division. As we have no desire to live in a pocket county, one that can be carried in your vest pocket, go slow—Prof. Boyd.
