MARCH IS A TEASE

In March
When coaxing breezes blow
And springtime fancies
To stir aflame
Instead I go
Flower in snow,
And take a new book from the shelf.
The dying embers of the winter's fire
So well I know
In March's laughing April eyes
The child that lies
As through the streets she sweeps
That mistrust
her
siren
song
along.
But when she rattles at my window-pane
And sings for me her loud refrain,
I turn my head
To watch just how
She conjures
blossoms on the naked
Then back to the bookshelf
bough
Into the firelight
Goes the book,
One last look
and I am off to follow her!
