Full Text
The French Gazette of yesterday morning informs, that the commander of the French convoy, on his arrival at Guadaloupe, was imprisoned by the commissary Victor Hugues, for suffering a very valuable transport to fall into the hands of the English. The commander justified his conduct, by alleging that his own ship had three millions of specie on board, and he thought it best to risk the transport, than such valuable treasure. The troops arrived at Guadaloupe amount to about 4000; three fourths of them blacks and mulattoes, but well equipped. They were convoyed by frigates, but it does not appear that any ship of the line was in the convoy.
