Special Officer James Mahoney accidentally shot himself twice while searching Tuesday night for a supposed burglar in the White Cash market, 426 North Main street. Two bullets took effect in his right hip, inflicting painful but not serious wounds. Mr. Mahoney said he was trying doors along his beat and found that of the White Cash market unlocked. He stepped inside and thought he heard a noise in the rear. Drawing his revolver, he started after the supposed burglar but failed to find any. Then he turned on the lights and searched the place without success. As he replaced his gun he accidentally discharged it twice. Both bullets entered his right hip ploughing through the flesh and coming out further down his leg.
