Full Text

The State and Congressional election in Oregon will take place on the 5th of June. The State is pretty evenly divided politically, but republicans as well as democrats believe that the President's veto of the Chinese bill, and the ill-concealed objection of the republican monopolists to any measures intended to protect American labor against the competition of that of immigrants, will have so powerful and legitimate an influence upon the classes of people in the State who have to suffer from that competition, that the democrats, who are opposed to it, will carry the election by a sweeping majority. Oregon only sends one representative to Congress, but the gain of that one in June will be a favorable augury of the gains which in November will change the political complexion of the House.
