Full Text
Superintendent of Instruction Fowler is gunning after a good deal of normal school legislation this winter, but it does not seem probable that he will get all that he desires. He wants the state normal school removed from Peru to Kearney; a new school at Lincoln; and divers "junior normals" in various towns in the western part of the state. He asks an appropriation of $12,000 for the maintenance of "junior normals" in five different towns during the summers, the towns designated to furnish the buildings, apparatus, etc. There is sense in this proposition, and very likely the legislature will indorse it. It is obvious that a number of summer normal schools, established at different towns would be a great convenience to the teachers, and the amount required to carry the idea into effect will not scare the tax payers.
The superintendent's ambition to have the state normal removed to Kearney, and to have a new school established at Lincoln, will not be gratified. There is a very strong opposition to the former proposition, and there is no money to carry out the latter. Fowler will have to be satisfied with the summer school idea for the present.
