The belt covered extends from Red River to the gulf, over five hundred miles north and south, and from the Louisiana and Arkansas line westward 250 miles. The damage to agricultural interests is very great, and the railroads of a most serious character. It is thought that 130 miles of the Houston & Texas Central track is under water.
