The remarkable growth and increased interest shown in the Wayne State University Press by the nation's newspapers and scholarly journals was indicated by Dr. G. Flint Purdy, director of the University Libraries, at the semi-annual election of its Board of Advisors. The election was held Thursday, Dec. 3 in McGregor Memorial Conference Center.
Dr. Harold A. Basilius, director of the WSU Press, was elected secretary of the advisors. E. Dawson Fisher, publicity director for the J. L. Hudson Company, was elected president. Alan E. Schwartz was elected vice-president. Schwartz is a member of the law firm of Honigman, Miller and Schwartz. John L. Rose, assistant director of public relations for the Burroughs Corporation, was elected vice-president for finance.
WSU President, Dr. Clarence B. Hilberry, commended the Board of Advisors for their vital work in the intellectual life of the University. "Without the encouragement of the Board of Advisors," Dr. Hilberry said, "the University Press would not exist today."
Retiring president Ben R. Donaldson was presented with an engraved plaque for his services during 1959.
