Full Text

The general election in the State of Louisiana, for governor, legislature and members of Congress for the next Congress, takes place during the present week. The governor holds his office for four years, and the salary is the largest of any State in the union—$7000 per annum, we believe. The candidates are Judge E. D. White, now representative in Congress from the New Orleans District, and Genl J. B. Dawson.

The State elections in Kentucky follow in August. Several of the Western states hold their State elections during the summer.
