Bucklin, of the sloop Providence, had the misfortune to be taken by a French privateer about 15 leagues to windward of Antigua, who carried him to Martinico, after stripping him and his people of every thing. Immediately after they were landed, he was confin'd in goal, with 21 more English masters, in a room but 9 feet and a half one way, and 10 and a half the other, without any other sustenance than a slender allowance of stinking cod fish once a day, and nothing to repose themselves on, but bare pavements.
