A Demand.—The "Baltimore Chronicle," of Friday last, has the following paragraph:-
The article from the New York Herald, [our Money Market, published on Tuesday last,] detailing, with great minuteness, the particulars of a correspondence said to have taken place between the New York and Philadelphia Banks, upon the subject of a resumption of specie payments, which has been published in several of the papers of this city, is a pure fabrication. We were at first inclined to publish it, but a moment's examination having satisfied us of its character, we laid it aside. No communications upon the subject have passed between the Banks of the two cities, since the formal reply of the Philadelphia Banks soon after the visit of the committee from New York.
Every material statement in that article was correct. We had the information from the most undoubted sources. Will the Baltimore Chronicle review its unjust and ungentlemanly denial—state its authority—and retract its false assertions? Unless it does us justice, it will please cease sending its paper to this office, as we shall stop our exchange, if it be not complied with.
