The Collectorship of New Orleans.—Our readers will recollect that the nomination of Martin Gordon to be Collector of the Port of New Orleans was some time ago rejected by the Senate. The vote upon that nomination is understood not to have been a party vote, but to have been influenced by representations from New Orleans, from friends as well as opponents of the Administration.

On the day following the rejection of this nomination, the President of the United States nominated to the Senate, for this office of Collector, Mr. Gordon, Junior, the Son of the late Collector, and, it is believed, at present a Clerk in the Collector's Office. That nomination is understood to have been taken up in the Executive sitting of the Senate on Thursday last, and rejected, as that of his father was, without a division; not probably on the grounds on which his father's nomination was rejected, but because of his youth, and consequent presumed want of character and experience sufficiently mature for so important and responsible a station.— Nat.
