Full Text

The Rev. W. L. M'Calla has, in a communication in the Philadelphia Democratic Press, informed the public that he did not write the Challenge to Fanny Wright to hold a public discussion on the subject of her newfangled system of education and morals, and that he had no thought of any person writing one in his name, until he received her acceptance of the challenge through the mail. The Reverend Gentleman has replied to Miss Fanny that as she appears willing to meet him on the whole ground of difference between them, she will probably have no objection to a selection of topics, and has proposed the following questions for discussion:

1. Do the Presbyterians aim at the legal establishment of their Church?

2. Do the Liberals aim at the legal establishment of their Temple?

By Liberals he means all who accuse the Presbyterians of aiming at an ecclesiastical establishment, and under the word Temple he embraces the Halls of Science and other parts of Fanny's system of reformation.

Whether this religious duel will be fought or not we can't tell, as we have not seen any reply from Fanny, but as she appears ready to "go the whole hog" it is probable she will take up the gauntlet.
