IS UP TO COUNTY BOARD.

Elk Point Drainage Project Will Cost $25,000.

One of the greatest drainage projects to be undertaken in Union county will be acted upon by the board of county commissioners at a meeting to be held at the court house in Elk Point Nov. 6. The county surveyor's report gives the length of the main ditch to be eight miles, and in addition to this there are to be eight small lateral ditches, which will extend through a portion of the county where the land is valuable. The cost of the immense ditch will be in the neighborhood of $25,000. If the decision of the board of county commissioners is in favor of this drainage project the cost will be apportioned among the land owners who will be benefitted by the construction of the ditch and assessed against the land in proportion to the number of acres drained. The construction of such a ditch would be a great benefit to the low land on the bottoms, which are usually wet in the spring on account of heavy rains.
