THE VOLUNTARY PRINCIPLE. The "Voluntary principle" is at work in the English Church establishment. The Bishop of London has issued a circular, pointing out the deficiency of church room in London and its suburbs. A meeting of the friends of the Church was held on the 6th of July, a subscription was set on foot, the King contributed a thousand pounds, the Queen three hundred, the archbishop of Canterbury a thousand, the archbishop of London two thousand, and a clergyman who did not name himself, five thousand. The whole amount was not much short of fifty thousand pounds; a remarkable illustration of the force of the voluntary principle in supporting public worship.
