NEWBURYPORT, July 7.

MELANCHOLY EVENT

Yesterday afternoon, two sailors having hired a horse and chaise rode out to Amesbury, and, we are informed, they were upset twice and broke the top of their chaise. On their return, at the head of State street, they again upset, a splinter entered the side of one of them, and penetrating to his heart, and instantly put a period to his existence. The other was last evening in too high a state of intoxication to give any accurate information respecting his unfortunate companion, but it is said he belonged to Kennebeck, and that his name is Joseph Harford. He is supposed to be about 30 years of age. The survivor received some light bruises, but none dangerous.
