A LITTLE WIDE OF THE MARK.
Fifth District, August 18th, 1881.
Messrs. Editors: As there is so much said and written about fraudulent registration and big lists of illegal voters in different parts of the State, may I ask you a question about our list in this district? I think about five or six years ago Mr. Ruby said he counted the lists of every district and published them. If my recollection of it be correct, he said we had over 900 on the list. I thought at the time he must have been mistaken and think so yet, for the last census, published in the Sun Almanac, has the whole male population only 1,142. When Mr. McCullough gets the list he ought to count and publish the actual number of registered voters. I think 475 would be the outside of what we have. Can you give the number? To be candid with you, there is a bet on it, and we would like to know.
