Full Text

Pittsburgh, Pa. April 28.

We learn from Erie that the ice has in a great measure disappeared on the lake. Apprehensive that the enemy will soon attempt the destruction of our shipping there, precautionary measures have been taken by capt. Perry, of the navy, for their protection. Cannon have been brought from Buffalo, and mounted on breast works, and the workmen and sailors regularly organized and prepared to act with efficiency at a moment's warning. To relieve the workmen from standing sentry, 100 militia have been ordered there by general Mead, from the 17th regiment, for the term of fifteen days, unless sooner relieved by the troops from the interior of the state. Our little squadron, it is confidently believed, will be fully prepared to do business about the first of June.
