Catherine Tinsley Individual Leader Of Councils
By Arthur George
With new officers elected, we find new hopes and spirits. President Troutman has turned his attention toward the major event of the council, which is the sale of Christmas seals. Mrs Thelma Williams, chairman, informed us of the fine progress made to date. Catherine Tinsley, of Brewster Council, is still in the lead, having turned in $35. Ruth Jackson, of North Detroit, is running a very close second. The Central council will hold its regular meeting Dec. 10, at the YMCA, at 4pm.
East Side
The Eastsiders held their regular meeting Tuesday, Nov 28, at the YMCA. Elizabeth Simmon, president. The principal issues were: (1) Increasing membership of council, and (2) membership tea, which is to be given the third week of January at the home of the chairman, Miss Julia Marie Boston, of Farnsworth
North Detroit
President Patton has been telling what a fine time his council had in seeing Miss Marian Anderson, last Sunday, Apr. 26. Miss Anderson was guest singer on the Ford Sunday Evening hour.
The current project of North Detroit is to furnish Christmas baskets to many needy families. This is truly a fine move
North End
This council as usual is among the most active in the community.
A special committee has been appointed to handle the case of the former Ike Levene beer tavern, which is to re-open according to reports. The citizens of this community are taking steps to prevent the opening of this tavern or any other tavern. To date in the North End there are three beer taverns. It is the belief of the North End council that it is too many.
The annual benefit bazaar, which is being staged, Dec. 12-16 at the Plymouth Congregational church, is under the direction of Theodore Smith, with Alma Smith and Elizabeth Enlow as co-workers.
West Side
Charles Harris, president of the greater West Side Youth council, informs us of the shadow party, to be given Friday, Dec. 8, at 4721 Bangor. The Christmas seal drive under the direction of Ernestine Tumbleston is making fine progress.
The fiscal year program is in the making, so says Frances Leonard, the program chairman.
